Lomilomi Introduction — Table Techniques (8 CE) This introductory class offers a hands-on introduction to Hawaiian lomilomi table work, including both technique and the cultural and spiritual context that informs this approach. The day includes demonstration, guided practice, and discussion, with an emphasis on awareness, presence, and quality of touch rather than memorization of techniques. Participants will learn a small set of foundational techniques performed with the client prone and, by the end of the day, will be able to give a simple lomilomi back-of-body session. Students are introduced to the deep yet gentle touch characteristic of this work, along with its thoughtful, clinically oriented application. This class also introduces key elements of Hawaiian perspective woven into lomilomi practice, including intention, respect for the body, and the practitioner’s inner state as part of effective care. Throughout the day, attention is given to refining palpation skills, working with body weight rather than strength, and cultivating an attuned, grounded connection with the client. This class is ideal for practitioners who are curious about lomilomi, wish to explore its foundations, or want to integrate new ways of listening and working into the massage they already practice. The teaching approach reflects the values, attitudes, and manner of palpation used throughout my lomilomi classes. Class size is intentionally limited to 4 participants to support individualized instruction and hands-on feedback. This is a Big Island therapeutic style of Lomilomi, emphasizing deep yet gentle touch, clinical application, and problem-solving bodywork.
